Maruti Suzuki has said it expects the new Dzire to generate a higher market share in the entry-level sedan market. The company has already fuelled a price war in the segment as the new version is priced around Rs25000-30000 cheaper than the previous-generation model.
'Our engineers have brought in interesting modifications including an Automatic Transmission in the new Swift Dzire to meet the aspirations of a young city family,' Maruti MD Shinzo Nakanishi said. The Dzire, leader in the entry-sedan segment, has been a hot-seller for Maruti and accounts for about 8000-9000 units monthly. The entry of Toyota Etios at a highly-competitive price (Delhi ex- showroom price just under Rs5 lakh) had made Maruti go in for a rejig.
The new model is shorter in length and qualifies the model for lower excise duty of 10% against the 22% excise duty on the previous model. While the petrol version costs between Rs4.79 lakh and Rs6.19 lakh, the diesel variants cost between Rs5.8 lakh and Rs7.09 lakh.
