Emami Paper Mills is hopeful of getting environmental and water clearances for its Rs1,600 crore proposed expansion project at Balasore in Odisha by the end of this year.
The company had earlier announced its plans to set up a 1, 85,000-tonnes a year wood-based pulp and paper mill at its existing plant site at Balasore.
According to Mr R.C. Mall, Director of Emami Paper Mills, 100% of the paper produced by the company currently comes from recycled wastes.
The new capacity will use wood pulp sourced from the company's own plantation.
“We have already applied for environmental and water clearances and we are hopeful of getting a go ahead by the end of this year,” Mr Mall said.
The company has set up a plantations division and has already commenced plantation activities in and around Odisha.
Emami Paper Mills currently has a 50-tonne a day mill in West Bengal and another 450 tonnes a day mill at Balasore. More than 80% of the company's production is in the newsprint segment.
