HCL Info rises on buzz of securing Aadhaar contract-news03022012

HCL Infosystems' roses nearly 17%, touching the weekly high of Rs51.20, on reports the company has won a Rs2,200-crore contract from the Unique Identification Authority of India to run the Aadhaar number repository and its IT infrastructure.

As per reports, HCL Infosystems bagged the seven-year mega contract beating IT major TCS. The contract involves building of the Central ID Data Repository ( CIDR) responsible for issuing 600 million unique identification numbers by 2014 along with updating resident information, and authenticating the identity of residents.

Report indicated that nine companies had initially expressed interest in the project for which the tendering process had begun in 2010. They were Accenture Services, HCL Infosystems, HP India Sales, HCL Technologies, IBM India, Mahindra Satyam, TCS, Tech Mahindra and Wipro.

On a consolidated basis, HCL Infosystems' net profit jumped 187.4% to Rs34.92 crore on 4.05% decline in net sales to Rs2673.68 crore in Q2 December 2011 over Q1 September 2011.
