M&M falls as tractor sales disappoint-news01032012

Utility vehicle maker Mahindra & Mahindra 's total auto sales in February accelerated 29% from a year ago to 43,087 units, helped by growth across passenger vehicle and four-wheeler commercial vehicles.

M&M's domestic sales were up 27% year-on-year at 40,461 units last month, while exports jumped 86% to 2,626 units.

In February, the company's passenger vehicle sales, which include utility vehicles and the Verito sedan, were up 33% to 20,573 units. Its four-wheeler commercial vehicle sales were up 37% year-on-year to 13,522 units.

Mahindra Navistar Automotive (MNAL), which sells heavy trucks, saw sales growth of 39.4% at 1,255 units.

However, sales of three-wheelers slipped to 5,111 units from 5,725 crore in the year ago quarter.

Mahindra & Mahindra's tractor sales too have taken a hit in February. The company's total tractor sales were down near 20% at 15,316 units.

While domestic tractor sales fell 21% year-on-year to 14,341 units in Feb, exports were up 7% to 975 units.

Over April-Feb period, M&M's total auto sales were up 28.5% at 4,36,245 units. Tractor sales over the period rose 12.5% at 2,18,047 units.
