Maharashtra Chief Minister (CM) Prithviraj Chavan sanctioned a Rs4,825 crore-budget for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority ( MMRDA) for FY13, earmarking significant amounts for development of infrastructure and transport projects.
The Authority has made a provision of Rs1,460 crore to boost the road network, while Rs870 crore has been allocated for the Mono Rail project and Rs338 crore for the Metro Rail project.
'We have made significant allocation for strengthening our road network as well as for developing infrastructure. The funds will be used for completion of the ongoing projects,' Metropolitan Commissioner Rahul Asthana said.
The Authority has presented a deficit of around Rs1,760 crore which is much lower than Rs2,450 crore deficit for FY 12.
'Earlier we had made significant provision for our projects due to which our deficit was higher. However, for this fiscal we have made calculated allocation of funds and therefore the deficit has lowered,' he said.
Last year, a budget of Rs5,570 crore was approved as against the Rs4,825 crore for the fiscal year 2012-13. MMRDA has also made a provision of Rs390 crore for development of water resources in the metropolitan region. Besides this, the Authority has allocated Rs660 crore for the Mumbai Urban Infrastructure Project (MUIP).
'The allocation is to facilitate faster completion of Eastern Freeway, Anik-Panjarpol link road, Panjarpol-Ghatkopar link road, rail over bridge at Milan and the Sahar elevated road which are expected to be completed this year,' he said.
Further, MMRDA has allocated Rs800 crore for the extended MUIP project under which nine roads in Vasai, Virar, Mira Road, Bhayandar, Dombivli, Kalyan, Ambarnath, Karjat and Badlapur are being developed.
