Tea Board is hopeful of receiving a significant jump in allocation in the 12th Plan. The increase is likely to be over two and half times the allocation made in the 11th Plan. The Board received Rs730 crore in the 11th Plan and Rs360 crore in the 10th Plan.
The allocation of ~Rs1825 crore made in the plan will be spent on activities such as field sustainability, quality improvement, market promotion, human resource development and R&D.
The scheme will largely benefit the small growers, as it will help them to improve the quality of their product and also move up the value chain. Also under the new scheme, the implementation and monitoring of the regulatory provisions would be streamlined.
