Media report indicates that H&R Johnson (India), a division of Prism Cement, is planning to make Andhra Pradesh a hub for its tiles manufacturing activity by investing Rs225 crore this year. The capacity addition work at its Silica JV ceramic unit at Tadepalligudem in West Godavari district was under way. It was
planning to achieve the designed additional capacity in full by the third quarter of the current financial year.
As per the management the unit was likely to achieve 9 million sq. m. (msm) production capacity per annum from 5.8 msm by the end of the calendar year. By then, it would also become the largest tile manufacturing unit in South India. The unit would soon start rolling out 800x800 mm and 1000x1000 mm slabs.
Besides, the capacity addition would contribute about 33 per cent (18 msm) share out of the 51 msm output projected for 2012-13 from 11 manufacturing units across the country. It had another manufacturing unit at Chigurukota in Krishna district in the State.
