In a setback for the Tatas, Calcutta High Court on Wednesday upheld the Singur Land Rehabilitation and Development Act, 2011 as constitutional and valid.
The Calcutta High Court pronounced its verdict on a plea filed by Tata Motors challenging the constitutional validity of the Singur Land rehabilitation act.
Justice IP Mukherjee of Calcutta High Court rejected Tata Motors ' petition on Singur land but held that Tatas may apply for compensation for damages, if any suffered by them.
The judge directed Tata Motors to remove all its articles within two months. He said that Tata Motors is at liberty to apply for compensation before district judge within 6 months.
The Supreme Court, on an appeal from Tata Motors, had stayed distribution of the land of the disputed factory site until further orders from the High Court.
